Spicy Cumin Cheese Straws

These cheese straws may be assembled and frozen ahead of time and then baked at the last minute, as described in the procedure. Alternatively, they can be put together and baked the day before serving and kept in an airtight container, though they will not be as crisp as just-baked cheese straws. Can be prepared in 45 minutes or less.

Parmesan Breads with Tomato and Onions

These easy-to-make flatbreads are a terrific treat for picnics and tailgate parties.

All-Year Blueberry Corn Muffins

Frozen blueberries make these muffins a year-round treat. You can use blue cornmeal for this recipe, but of course, the yellow works just as well.

White Bean Spread Rippee

This recipe can be prepared in 45 minutes or less.

Tomato and Olivada Crostini

The tomato topping for these crostini is based on that of a "fettunta pomodoro" (a variation of bruschetta made with whole-wheat peasant bread) sampled at Florence's Cantinetta Antinori, owned by the well-know winemaking family. To create visual variety for our presentation, we have made half of the crostini with the black olive paste on top and the rest with the red tomato mixture on top. Those who prefer a simpler recipe can sprinkle all of the bread slices with Parmesan before toasting (doubling the amount of cheese) and top all of the crostini with the tomato mixture and then the olive paste.

Melted Cheese Dip with Tortilla Chips

For this dip, based on the Mexican queso fundido, you will need to use a flameproof dish set over candles or Sterno to keep the cheese melted. Kevin Taylor, chef of Cafe Iguana, Denver, Colorado also offers guacamole with the chips.

Honey Bran Muffins with Figs

A light texture and a sweet honey flavor make these bran muffins irresistible.

Spicy Nut Salsa with Blue Cheese

Not your typical salsa. This innovative topping is terrific with leg of lamb, or use it on endive spears or celery sticks for a party hors d'oeuvre.

Cherry and Zabaglione Cream Tart

A sophisticated finale that's easier than pie. If you have a little extra time, you might make your own pastry shell.

Watermelon Popsicles

Popsicle molds are sold at some drugstores and department stores.

Sweet Couscous with Nuts and Dates

In this interesting Tunisian specialty called farka, the semolina grains take a sweet turn. It is enjoyed as a breakfast dish or afternoon snack, rather than an after-dinner dessert.

Green-Olive and Caper Tapenade

Serve this tapenade on bruschetta or as a sandwich spread.

Chicken Liver Pâté

This is quick, easy and delicious - the perfect addition to a holiday buffet.
