Ingredients

1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup heavy cream
in 3 ounces chopped bittersweet chocolate
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. Cook sugar in a dry heavy saucepan, stirring, until melted and golden, then carefully add the heavy cream. Cook, stirring, until the caramel dissolves, then remove from heat and stir in the chocolate until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
