Make cardamom syrup ahead of time. Cover and keep refrigerated for up to 2 months.

Ingredients

For the cardamom simple syrup:

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons lightly crushed whole cardamom pods
2-inch strip orange zest, removed with a vegetable peeler

For the cocktail:

1 750-ml bottle prosecco, chilled
Cardamom syrup (recipe follows)
Angostura bitters
Orange twists, for serving

Preparation

  1. For the cardamom simple syrup:

    Step 1

    In a small saucepan, combine all the ingredients and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved, then remove from heat. Let syrup cool to room temperature, then strain.

  2. For the cocktail:

    Step 2

    Fill each glass with 1 teaspoon cardamom syrup, and add a dash of bitters. Top up with prosecco and serve garnished with an orange twist.
