Wiener Burgers with Main Dog Slaw

Just as one special cocktail sets the party mood, one special condiment streamlines the party food. Try Min’s Main Dog Slaw as a simple solution to the cluttered condiment bar or mustard tasting. The switch from hot dog to hamburger bun puts a signature twist on a dog.

Recipe information

  • Yield

    makes 6 servings

Ingredients

For the Main Dog Slaw

2 cups slaw mix
1/2 cup chopped red onion
1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
1/4 cup spicy brown mustard
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
Dash of hot pepper sauce

For the Wiener Burgers

6 short, fat, fully cooked bratwursts or other hot dogs
6 slices Swiss cheese (optional)
6 hamburger buns

Preparation

  1. Step 1

COMBINE all the slaw ingredients in a medium bowl. Blend well, cover, and refrigerate until serving time.

    Step 2

HEAT the broiler. Slice the bratwursts lengthwise until almost cut through. Place on a baking sheet.

    Step 3

BROIL the brats about 4 inches from the heat source until seared on both sides and warmed throughout. (You can also brown the brats in a skillet over medium heat.)

    Step 4

TOP with the cheese (if you like) and broil (or cover the skillet) and cook an additional minute until the cheese melts.

    Step 5

PLACE a wiener on each bun and pile on the slaw.
